Claude shared chats and Artifacts really did appear in Google search results. The core failure was not account compromise but broad search discoverability of public share URLs, which multiple reports and an independent crawl analysis tied to indexable Claude share pages and conflicting search controls in late July 2026.

Anthropic’s own help pages say a shared Claude link is visible to anyone with the link, but users generally do not expect “anyone with the link” to turn into “anyone who can Google it.” That gap is the whole story here.
